Existence of ERP and Oracle Application as a Vendor.

Brief definition of ERP:

ERP is an abbreviation for Enterprise Resource Planning.

ERP plays an important role to automate the business work. This includes all the department of the business such as Planning, Manufacturing, logistics, Sales, Accounting etc. Every department has its own importance for the business. Based on the business requirements ERP is broadly categorized into various modules on the whole known as ERP Modules. Each ERP module is focused on one area of business processes.

The basic goal is to provide one central repository for all the information that is shared by the various departments (ERP MODULES) in order to smooth the flow of data across the organization.

Technically it’s a set of processes which are defined on bases of Business Requirements.

Some of the most commonly known ERP modules include:  OM (Order Management), HRMS (Human Resource Management System), OPM (Oracle Process Manufacturing) etc.

Why we need ERP?

Let’s take an example suppose you have a business that deals with items that people require on a daily bases. Now to purchase there items we need to place an order with the required merchants which can be done using Order Management System (OM Module), once we receive the goods we need to keep track of the stock based on our requirements for this we have Inventory Management so that accordingly the next order can be placed. Payment to the merchants can be handled using Account Payable (AP Module). Next we now sell some products/goods and have received cash inflow these details are recorded in Accounts Receivables (AR Module). Finally at the end of each financial year we need to file our accounting details with the Govt, this can be done using the General Ledger (GL Module) which helps in generating the final account statement for all the Income and expenditure incurred during a year.

So we observe that for simply running a simple business that deals with products required on day to day bases, how ERP comes handy to keep track of all the areas of the business.

ERP Vendors:

Most popularly known Vendors of ERP are SAP, JD Edwards, PeopleSoft, Oracle Applications etc.

With this Blog my focus would be on Oracle Applications.
